Border Striders
  • JASMINE RAYWARD won the National U/19 Ironman at SLS “Aussies”, then an incredible 14 Golds at World Surf Life Saving. She later made the Final of World Junior Kayak in Europe. Sister BIANCA won 2 World Junior SLS Golds.
  • ELKE RAYWARD won National Schools Junior Triathlon in Perth by 31secs, outswimming all the boys in the process. ZAHN SPIES took Gold in the Intermediate Div. by a massive 1min 17secs while twin sister CHARLI won Bronze. Elke returned to the Junior “Aussies” where she was runner-up in the 2km Beach Run.
  • KY SIMPSON was 3rd junior in the huge Bridge to Brisbane 10km
  • RUBY HUGHES (Iowa State), SAKURA SUGIYAMA (North Texas/Golf) & MOMO SUGIYAMA (Hawaii/Golf) brought to almost 40 the number of Border Striders to earn NCAA Scholarships in the USA. KATH LAWSON & HARVEY CRAMB too.
  • DANIEL HEATH runner-up in Dreamworld 2.2km (7.51) after shining on the Hong Kong junior circuit.
  • LYLA WILLIAMS won Qld Junior Road Walk at QSAC and finished the year ranked among World Top 20 juniors for 10km Walk.
  • JACK FIDGE won Great Whitehaven 5km Beach Run ($150).
  • TAYLOR GOODWIN broke Griffith Sport Logan 5km Rec (16.53).
  • AIDEN & KYSON DAVIDSON quinella’d NSW Christian Schools X.
  • LANI COWAN, ANISE & ELKE DAWKINS trifecta’d Mudgeeraba’s Flirt with the Dirt 5km. Lani, IVY HANKINSON, Anise & AYVA IMMISCH had gone 1-2-3-4 the previous round at Coombabah.
  • STELLA HOWARD shocked the faves to win Andrews Cup Cross.
  • GRACE HENRY joined us after her 3rd at Oceania Junior Super-Sprint Triathlon & was eventually selected for WJs in Spain.
  • IVY HANKINSON & SIENNA JOHNSON went 1-2 in Gold Coast Running Festival 2.5km at CBUS Stadium.

2024  WINTER REPORT 

AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR/SCHOOLS CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP 

#3 Age—ELKE RAYWARD  U/16yrs ASS Schools 4000m at Yarra Glen, Vic (17.52)—and part of Qld’s Team Gold. One of the many highlights of Elke’s year which included: 

  • Winning GOLD at National Schools Triathlon (Junior) in Perth, clocking the fastest swim leg by boy or girl! ZAHN SPIES won Inter Gold & CHARLIE SPIES 

 Inter Bronze! 

  • Being named in the Australian Triathlon Team Pathway Squad for Qld. Along with BIANCA RAYWARD, CHARLIE & ZAHN SPIES (BS members), BIANCA RAYWARD, AUSTIN CAMENZULI, GRACE CAMPBELL & GRACE HENRY (TTP-àWorld Juniors). 
  • Victorious in the Gold Coast Marathon Junior 4km “Dash” (PB 13.53) for the second year-in-a-row. Our other standouts in that huge event were MAYA BROWN (5th in Junior 2km/7.56), WILL MIDDLETON (5th in Junior 2km/7.05) & JACOB HANKINSON (5th in Junior 4km/13.42).   • Winning Round #1 of the World Youth Ocean (SLS) Series & scoring a free Board. 

#6 Age—ISABELLA HARTE U/20yrs AA 6000m (25.23) at Symmons Plains, Tasmania. The Sydney University student survived horrendous conditions at Launceston. 

#7 Age—ANDIE BUCHAN  11yrs APS Schools 3000m at Yarra Glen. Member of NSW’s Team Gold, and all on debut! 

#10 Age—TAYLOR GOODWIN  U/18yr AA 6000m (22.17). Clint Black Sports Conditioning. 

#11 Age—MAYA BROWN  AA 10yrs 2000m (8.44). #3 Qld &Team Silver Medal. On debut. 

STATE CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS—ELLE DOWN HISTORY 

Elle became the first girl in history to win the NSW Schools/Queensland Junior Cross-Country double. The two photos show Elle’s winning style at both titles. 

GOLD—ELLE DOWN  QAA Junior U/10yrs 1000m (3.25) at mountainous Victoria Park. 

GOLD—ELLE DOWN  NSW 8/9yrs All-Schools 1000m (8.07) at Penrith Equestrian. 

SILVER—TAYLOR GOODWIN  QAA U/18yrs 6000m. (18.33) following his 2022 victory. 

SILVER—CHARLIE SPIES  QAA U/17yrs 4000m (14.08) at Vic.Park.
