September 2017
CALLUM DAVIES clocked a massive PB 3.52 in capturing the bronze medal in the 1500m at the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast, September 27. Towards the rear after 300m (45 seconds), Callum moved through the field but could never catch the breakaway leader Jack Stapleton (3.49), nor NZ’s Simon Rogers (3.51). Great season opener Callum!
KYAH ANDERSON has done it again becoming the youngest-ever winner of a major road race in Queensland. On September 23rd she won the Bay Twilight 5km at Wynnum (19mins 34seconds) ahead of hundreds of women and girls. And aged just 10! Kyah’s heroics inspired our JORJA LOCKHART to win the junior 1km (3.56); and MITCHELL BRADBROOK (5km/16.51) and CAIDEN MACFARLANE (1km/3.28) to finish runners-up overall in their races.
Congratulations to TASH HEIKKILA on her 10th placing at the World U/20 Aquathlon Championships in Canada.
Also great job by JAMES TURNER who placed 5th at the Australian Marathon championships in Sydney (PB 2hrs 38min) on September 17.
June 2017
73 of our runners have qualified for State Schools Cross Country championships over the next three weeks. Good luck to all in their bid for National spots.
Congratulations to MARCUS O’BRIEN on his 4th at City to South 5km against more than 1200 runners (16.59). First over 40!
April 2017
EMMA-KATE WATT rose from obscurity to #4 in her national debut at the Australian Little Athletics Championship at Sydney Olympic Stadium on April 22-3.
Watt clocked near-PBs placing 4th in the U/13 girls 1500m (5.03) and 6th in the 800m (2.26). Her trademark blistering finish had the Queensland team screaming and the crowd gasping.
MITCHELL BRADBROOK and CAIDEN MACFARLANE starred for us with victories in the Gold Coast Bulletin Road Races on April 23. Bradbrook beat two rep runners in the 5000m (15.58) while Macfarlane was unstoppable in the Junior 1000m (3.34).
CAITLYN MORSE enhanced her road racing credentials with victory in the Great South Junior 2.6km Run (10.17), joining a select group of girl runners who have beaten all the boys in a race. Got to love it!
Also noted JENNY DALEY’S third place at last month’s International Women’s Day 10km in the over 60 year category. Well done Jenny!
