About Us
Our coach Brian Chapman established Border Striders after moving from Darwin in 1991 to the Gold Coast. He had run at national level in his younger years, winning a bronze medal at the Australian Marathon championships in 1972, and placing 4th at the AAA 50km in California in 1976. Brian trained his first national champion in 1970 (Susan Bott – Australian sub-junior cross country).
He developed the unique Spiral Conditioning Theory after researching 20 years of Modern Athletics and Coaching journals and incorporating the principles of triathlon maestro Brett Sutton, a previous coach Toby Schreier, and 1970’s training partner Kerry O’Brien.
Brian’s proven training methods have ensured that our squad’s results lead Australia. In 2020:
- 24 National qualifiers in Track
- 35 State medals (incl. 17 Gold)
